Important Concussion Information
The State of Minnesota recently passed legislation (MN Statute 121A.37 and 121A.38) in May 2011 regarding youth athletes, concussions, and the athletes return to play. All youth sports associations, which includes AVHA, are required by these statutes to have all coaches certified by taking an on-line concussion certification program offered through the Center of Disease Control (CDC). This on-line program, called "HEADS UP, CONCUSSION IN YOUTH SPORTS," will assist association members in identifying signs of concussions and the steps of response and healing.
To comply with AVHA policy, all coaches must complete the CDC on-line certification program. They will be required to turn in the certificate of completion to AVHA as documentation that they have completed the program. Parents, players, and all supporters are encouraged to take the certification program as well to familiarize themselves with the signs of concussions and the recommended process to bring the injured player back to the rink at the appropriate time. The mandatory certification program will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. Please click on the following link to complete your certification: CDC on-line certification program.
In addition to the certification program, the CDC site contains other useful information and flyers you may like to print for yourself for future reference.
