What is the Apple Valley High School Girls Hockey Booster Club?

What we're all about!

The Apple Valley High School Girls Hockey Booster Club is an independent non-profit organization of involved parents, guardians, and other interested parties who provide support to the girls’ hockey program at Apple Valley High School.

The Booster Club’s mission is to enrich the AVHS Girls Hockey program by providing financial support and encouraging sportsmanship, teamwork, team building, respect for others and self-confidence in each student athlete through the sport of hockey.

In addition to financial support, the Booster Club recognizes that participation in high school athletics benefits everyone, and we promote opportunities to build and strengthen relationships among all involved: the student body, Apple Valley High School staff, parents, and the community.

What do we do?

The Booster Club was established to encourage parent participation and to raise funds to enhance the AVHS Girls Hockey program. The Booster Club believes strongly that parent involvement during the high school years can be a key to the success of the individual student. We promote enthusiastic and positive behavior at hockey games by letting our players play and our coaches coach.

How we do it!

In order to facilitate this, the Boosters Club organizes social and fundraising events for players, coaches and its families throughout the high school hockey season.

SOCIAL EVENTS

Throughout the high school hockey season, the Booster Club hosts several events to show our appreciation for those who make a difference in our players’ lives and encourage community involvement. Activities such as:

  • Alumni Game
  • Kick-Off Dinner
  • Parent Jersey Day
  • Senior Day
  • Teacher Appreciation Day
  • Team Memory Book
  • Carb Dinners
  • Year-End Banquet
  • Youth Day

An event that we are particularly proud of is our “Give Back to the Community Day”. Each year the Booster Club identifies a group in Apple Valley, MN that would benefit from the girls’ hard work. This is a great activity for the group because it encourages teamwork, team-building, and community service.

FUNDRAISING

Money to support the AVHS Girls’ Hockey program is raised through membership dues and a number of fundraising activities sponsored by the Booster Club throughout the season.  Fundraising activities include:

  • Chuck-A-Puck
  • Bean Bags Tournament
  • Grocery Bagging
  • Pizza Sales
  • Spring Flower Sales
  • Firemuster

The Booster Club is always interested in hearing new fundraising ideas, please feel free to contact a member if you would like to suggest a new and exciting way we can raise money to support the program.

Where does the money go?

At the beginning of each season, a suggested budget is submited for approval by the Booster Treasurer. This budget includes annual club line items such as community building and team building activities. The budget is solely dependent on monies earned through fundraising.

Once the annual line items are covered, the Booster Club Board is open to requests from the head coach and team captains. Requests for financial support are submitted to the Booster Club Board, which reviews the requests in line with the current budget. The Booster Club Board then presents their recommendations to the booster club membership for approval. The membership then votes on each request at the regularly-scheduled monthly meetings.
