Association hockey must hit the 'pause' button

Hockey Families,

We did our best. We socially distanced, wore our masks, arrived at the arenas dressed, and complied with the challenges presented through ever-changing COVID policies. However, the rate of COVID infections in Minnesota has reached a point where additional restrictions must be implemented. Unfortunately, this means we must stop playing youth hockey for the time being (the “Pause”).

Our hearts are broken.

To the kids, coaches, team managers, and parents, we want to thank all of you for doing everything you could to keep our season going. It was not easy, we know.

Because of the Pause, the following policies are in effect starting Saturday, November 21st and will tentatively continue through Friday, December 18th (back on the ice on Saturday, December 19th):

Team Events

All team events are cancelled. This includes practices, scrimmages, games, parties, etc.

Training Centers

The use of the AVHA and the BHC Training Centers are prohibited.

Tournaments

Association teams may not participate in any tournaments, including in and out of state. Most tournaments scheduled during the Pause are cancelled, including  the Valkyrie Lightning Tournament and the Burnsville Thanksgiving Classic Tournament. Level coordinators will work with the host associations with rescheduling and refunds if possible.

Association Fees

Any ice time lost during the Pause will not be charged to Association members. If we are unable to play hockey for the remainder of the season, the Board will evaluate ice bills and rebates at that time.

We realize this is not the news any of us wanted to hear. We understand your disappointment. Our best hope is that working together, we can reverse the trend of COVID infections and allow us to get back on the ice sooner, rather than later.

Stay safe. Stay healthy. Stay strong.
